The Absolute team were particularly inspired by this year’s selection of innovative and beautifully creative designs shown throughout 100% Design. We’ve now had time to digest and dissect our highlights from the week:
Talks we were inspired by:
The panel discussion on ‘How luxury interior design responds to lifestyle changes’. This was presented by David Michon, Rabih Hage, Suzy Hoodless and Simon Rawlings. We enjoyed the in-depth discussion exploring the impact (or not) on luxury hospitality and residential design of trends and social media. We supported the panellists’ emphasis on how listening to the client and considering sustainability and longevity of design underpin the best designers’ work.

The panellists emphasised the importance of listening to clients – and we agree!
‘New & emerging tile trends’ by Jules Archard of Domus Tiles – with designs from modern eclectic inspiration to customised geometric patterns, the future of tiles is exciting! Colour was absolutely the flavour of the season as the tiles shown at the Design Festival were an inspiring kaleidoscope of tiles of all shapes and shades.

Rising star designer/ artist Yinka Ilori’s discussion with Helen Parton about the influences that inform his work – both his Nigerian family background and London upbringing. We love the colour in his work, the use of simple forms to amazing effect and his emphasis on upcycling.

A few of our favourite things
We loved:
Vielaris, who have taken parquet flooring and evolved it into a work of art. They use different shapes to create exciting and beautiful designs. We love their completely customisable modern twist on a classic design.

Poppy Pippin, whose Moss Tiles are designed to encourage natural greenery growth. We really liked this practical and low maintenance example of Biophilic design.

Kinetura’s fascinating concept allows for lighting to be integrated (plastered) into walls and ceilings that can be programmed to open and close as the client passes between rooms! We felt we had a glimpse into the future of interiors and we’re excited to see more.

Lizzie Hillier’s bold prints with clever use of colour really caught our eye this year, fun, flirty yet elevated. We’d use this piece in an otherwise fairly neutral space, think clean lines scattered with Mid-century furniture. Top tip: don’t forget to check out their screen prints, simply gorgeous!

The Handmade Rug Company creates the most interesting and inspiring, high quality yet exceedingly funky rugs. We loved this green Persian rug that’s dying to take centre stage in someone’s lounge…

Stunning green Persian rug
Key conclusions:
Colour is everywhere again this season! From ombre mosaic tile walls to acid green Persian rugs, we are seeing colour used in so many fresh and innovative ways.
Heavily textured wall panels and coverings have been updated – interesting patterns and patinas on the walls of your home is sure-fire interior jewellery!
Lighting continues to evolve and amaze – we saw so many fun and decadent designs and shapes that challenge the conventional.
