Following our visit to Maison et Objet Paris 2020, we have fallen in love with this desert-toned colour palette.
Inspiration
We’ve taken inspiration from:
natural landscapes such as ancient olive groves in the Mediterranean, desert planes in Arizona and the British flowers of late summer.
We’re also inspired by spectacular architecture such as Arcosanti by Paolo Soleri, Chandigarh by Le Corbusier and La Muralla Roja by Ricardo Bofill- which use colour to decorate features or structures and enhance/ contrast with the untreated material finishes elsewhere in the facades.
In Artworks we’re inspired by Picasso’s Rose Period- See ‘Family of Saltimbanques’, ‘Boy leading a horse’ or the later ‘Les Demoiselles d’Avignon’ (you can see the inspiration behind these at the RA Picasso exhibition)

Developing the colour palette
Step 1: Key colours
Working with the Farrow and Ball range, we began by choosing the colours we feel are most fundamental to getting the look right. We selected three key colours in red, orange and yellow.
Step 2: Pale sandy whites
Next we added pale, sandy whites with similar tones which would complement the key colours.
Step 3: Plant inspired greens & blues
Finally, we chose an olive green, dusky sky blue and a grey black which compliments the key colours of the range. These emulate the colours you’d typically find in the plants of the desert.
