Property:

2 bedroom period flat

Project details:

The client engaged us to help with the renovation of her light-filled first floor flat in Islington. After being leased out for several years, it required some love, upgrades to finishes, electrics and appliances, and a good refresh.

While no structural alterations were included in the work, a thorough redecoration and updating of various fittings has resulted in a wonderful facelift for the home.

The bathroom tapware was replaced with contemporary, brushed chrome fittings, while new sanitary-ware and a bespoke-finish vanity unit modernised the space. We selected fun matt white hexagon tiles to cover the walls and concrete-look large tiles for the floor, keeping the room feeling airy, fresh and spacious.

The living room joinery was to remain and was in very good condition, though we altered the design by trimming it back at the top and sides to help it feel less imposing and closed-in. It was then thoroughly stripped-back and redecorated it, refreshing it beautifully.

We arranged for the existing timber kitchen cabinetry to be overhauled and repaired as required to give it new life. A timber worktop and dark wall tiles were replaced with a white and grey quartz worktop and splash-back, bringing a contemporary touch into the space. Appliances and tapware were upgraded and the walls repainted in a very soft grey to compliment the worktop.

Joinery in the bedrooms were redecorated, and select electrics upgraded throughout to give it life for years to come. We selected new blinds for all windows for light-blocking purposes and to add another layer to the finishes. The existing wood flooring was sanded back and re-oiled, removing stains and scratches and restoring it incredibly well.

We arranged for the carpet covering the stairs to be replaced, and the front door was redecorated to keep it in excellent condition. We selected feature tiles to be installed in the entryway, complimenting the carpet and front door well and bringing a sense of fun and sophistication into the home as one enters.

The result is a fabulous light-filled home, being the perfect blend of contemporary and traditional styles, suiting it’s London surrounds wonderfully. We hugely enjoyed collaborating with the client and giving her lovely flat a great refresh.
